Friday night we picked up some fast food with our camp chairs and roadies in tow and made it to see Adrian Quesada’s new project band, The Black Pumas. We were joined by Nancy and her friend after their fantastic dinner at Stella.
A little bit rock and roll with a lot of funky soul, this band rocked the socks off a rowdy crowd of small humans and their parents. They rocked my socks too although watching the dancing kids of all ages was almost more entertaining than the band itself. This band has a front man who seems comfortable in the spotlight but who’s voice is struggling to keep up with a demanding performance schedule. They’re still getting their sea legs and the Mueller stage is a great place to start. The Austin music community is proud of our own and this is a band we expect to see more of.
