LP coming up at the Independent

By Jenn

LP was a surprise at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass (HSB) 2013. She was the first performer on Saturday morning. It was the regular early crew: me, Jessica, Peter, Teri, Jill, Renee and Jay.  LP was amazing.  She was everywhere and she was great.  I can’t explain; it was too long ago, but I loved her enough that the day that I returned from Sri Lanka in February 2014, I hauled my butt to the Great American Music Hall (GAMH) to see her open for Kodachrome.  I met Jill and Kurt there and I loved her all over again, though the show was very different. She had her ankle/leg in a cast and couldn’t really move around the way she had at HSB.

When I saw that she was performing at the Independent, the first night had already sold out and a second night had been added. So Jill and I will be going to see her on that second night which has subsequently sold out. This show will also serve as an opportunity to celebrate our 6th friendiversary. We met on February 9, 2012 at the Soul Salvation show at GAMH, Paul Thorn opening for Ruthie Foster. It was a show I had decided to go to alone because Andee told me that I should see Ruthie Foster. (In fact, I was talking on the phone with Andee as I walked up to the box office to buy my ticket.)  Jill and I were standing next to each other after Paul Thorn (who is amazing in case you don’t know) finished and she turned to me and said ‘Aren’t you so excited?’ and this is how the first of many music friendships was made.  So Happy Friendiversary, Jill, and thank you LP for giving us the opportunity to come together again in our happy place to celebrate!

LP performs Feb 10 and Feb 11 at the Independent. Both shows are sold out.
